MS Turanor PlanetSolar is the world’s largest solar-powered boat. She has received many awards and holds 5 Guinness World Records including: the first solar powered boat to circumnavigate the globe, the largest solar powered boat, the fastest transatlantic crossing made completely under solar power, and 2 others.
The new mission for this Swiss solar-powered vessel begins with another transatlantic crossing, in an attempt to break her own speed record. After that she will become a scientific platform as part of the “PlanetSolar DeepWater” expedition. On the voyage, she will put into port in Miami, New York, Boston, Reykjavik, Iceland and Bergen, Norway. We will follow her progress and report back.

The MS Turanor PlanetSolar Returns to Sea This Month for its New Solar Campaign!
After 6 months of intense maintenance and optimization operations, the MS Turanor PlanetSolar has cast off and is heading out to sea again for her 2013 solar campaign, reports PlanetSolar. With a new crew led by Captain Gerard d’Aboville aboard, the catamaran sails toward Rabat, Morocco before crossing the Atlantic and sailing back up towards the Far North along the American coasts, to carry out a campaign of unique scientific measurements along the Gulf Stream conducted by the University of Geneva (UNIGE).
The success of the first trip around the world powered exclusively by solar energy was a remarkable experiment that demonstrated the maturity of photovoltaic technology onboard the catamaran. For her 2013 campaign, the ship will take part in unprecedented missions that are intended to broaden and diversify her practical applications. A scientific expedition along the Gulf Stream, a campaign to collect floating plastic waste, and even educational events are awaiting the world’s largest solar boat!

This marks the world’s largest solar catamaran’s second life, a high point for the PlanetSolar team and her numerous supporters.
