Solar Impulse Is the Only Airplane of Perpetual Endurance, Able to Fly Day and Night on Solar Power, without a Drop of Fuel
The chances of succeeding at the first attempt to build a solar airplane capable of flying around the world were judged to be slim, so a more rudimentary prototype, HB-SIA, was first constructed, reports Solar Impulse. Lessons learned from this prototype are incorporated in Solar Impulse 2, the Round-The-World Solar Airplane.

In the footsteps of the great aeronautical firsts, Solar Impulse intends to achieve the First Round-The-World Solar Flight in 2015, after 12 years of research, tests and development. No fuel, but only solar energy and technologies of the future, to prove that pioneering spirit and innovation can really change the world.
Solar Impulse 2: Exploration to Change the World
It is some men’s great dream to explore the world. Today we present Solar Impulse 2, an aircraft, powered only by the sun that will attempt the First Round-The-World Solar Flight next year. If you want to learn more about how a plane can fly for days at a time, without any fuel, drop a comment and ask your questions, or visit .
Adventure is not necessarily a spectacular deed, but rather an “extra-ordinary” one, meaning something that pushes us outside our normal way of thinking and behaving. Something that forces us to leave the protective shell of our certainties, within which we act and react automatically.
Adventure is a state of mind in the face of the unknown, a way of conceiving our existence as an experimental field, in which we have to develop our inner resources, climb our personal path of evolution and assimilate the ethical and moral values that we need to accompany our voyage. –Bertrand Piccard, Initiator of Solar Impulse
